A kind act in an unkind place: A memory came to me today of being in prison decades ago in Glasgow, working in the textiles shop and there was a gay man there, probably in his 50's. He was well known in the prison and even had his own cell which they kept for him as he was only ever out for a few weeks at a time, I can't remember what he did to keep coming back, but it wasn't serious. Anyway Glasgow at that time was a pretty rough, backward place and you would think it would have been tough for him but he got a lot of respect and had a dignity about him, sitting at his sowing machine every day, always polite and friendly, happy.
