So over the last 2 weeks as I've mentioned we've had some pretty amazing involvement and fun - and some serious stuff as well - and I mentioned that we used some themes to get people thinking about a story they would like to tell.
The story did not need to be personal but could be if wished, did not need to be the truth as fiction is fantastic, however members could speak their truth if wanted but most of all the story needed to engage.
We talked about a beginning, a middle and an end and what that might entail, and how to put some structure around those elements.
The themes we used were;
· The city was dark, the streetlights flickered as the rain fell…
· The door slammed shut, I felt …
· Slowly my eyes shut, and I felt happy ..
· The man outside watched the window of my neighbour …
· This part of the city felt different …
· The bed was very, very uncomfortable and the smell was unpleasant …
· The grassy field looked inviting, a place I could lie down in the sun and dream …
· They were all laughing at the joke, but I wasn’t …
The group investigated a few of the themes, and then we moved to choosing two of the stories told and as two groups investigated and explored them further, using improvisation to support, help and build the stories.
We played with behavioural change through pretending to be a variety of 'things'; animals, objects, doing something completely different whilst 'acting' the scenario of the story - a lot of fun but, boy what changes they made.
If you're interested pick a theme and drop us a note telling us your story - fiction or truth, about you or something you've seen....
